What's inside Adult World?

Have you ever wondered what’s inside those stores emblazoned with “Adult World” in large, bright, red letters? Why would anybody go to a sex store in this age of Internet where everything is available at the click of a button? Well, we did wonder. And the other day, strictly on the basis of professional interest, we ducked into an Adult World at the corner of Main Street and Fourth Avenue to investigate.

After being buzzed in and passing through a metal gate, we passed the lone clerk behind a counter directly across from the entrance and walked into a warehouse-like interior with a high ceiling lined with about eight lines of shelving. A woman browsing in the middle isle was the only customer in the store.(Four young men walked in before we left, but they seemed to be friends of the store clerk.)

We started on the left shelf, which was stacked all types of sex toys, mostly vibrators and dildos of every colour and size. We detoured to the next shelf which was lined with XXX-rated magazines covered in cellophane. There was a Hustler magazine and a bunch of others we never heard off. One shelf was dedicated for gay magazines.

That was it. Mostly magazines and sex toys.

The mystery is solved. We pulled our cap lower on our head and hot-footed it out of there before somebody from our kid’s school spotted us.
