A shop owner was robbed of R25,000 in cash, cigarettes and cellphone airtime vouchers by seven armed men in Westdene, Johannesburg police said on Thursday.

"Seven armed men entered the store at 7pm on Wednesday and ordered the shop owner and his security guard to lie down. They then took money from the till, cigarettes and airtime vouchers," said Superintendent Dollar Sithebe.

The gang fled in a VW bakkie without firing any shots.

I too was robbed last year

I too was robbed last year and it's a big trauma on my part. I don't have any choice but to give all of my money and supplies of food to the robbers just to spare my life. But for now, I've learned my lesson, I did some research and asked some of my friends on how to protect myself against them. I have a complete video cam inside and outside of my shop which is hidden, my door automatically opens if the buyer is a safe shopper and closes or is locked if the buyer is armed and can't be trusted. The last thing that I've got is a bullet proof glass doors and windows just in case robbers shoots from the outside of my shop. arizona locksmith

Is this now how we have to live? - to be afraid to walk in the streets at any time of the day or night having to constantly look behind you, to drive with our windows closed watching for a hijacker or smash and grab thief, to work behind bullet-proof glass with cameras, metal fencing with one finger on the panic button only to go home and lock ourselves into our high-walled electric fenced prisons...???!!!

This is a sad state of affairs and not how I want to live in this country.
